    Chimpanzee Gorilla Safari Itinerary:

    Day 1: Arrival Entebbe Airport-Kampala

    Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide who will then take you to Serena Kampala Hotel (High end) or Cassia Lodge (Mid range) or Forest Cottages Kampala (Budget end) for an overnight and dinner.

    Day 2: Kampala – Kibale National Park

    Leave Kampala after breakfast for the fascinating drive through papyrus swamps and thick jungle of the Nile Delta to Kibale National Park just under the Ruwenzori Mountains. Afternoon guided walk in the crater lakes area of the park for outstanding cultural visit.

    Meals and overnight stay at Kyaninga Lodge (Lodge facility) or Primate Lodge -Forest Cottage (Mid Lodge) or Chimpanzee Guest House (Budget facility). A stunning location overlooking a dramatic Crater Lake and the fabled “Mountains of the Moon”.

    Day 3: Kibale Chimpanzee Habituation Experience

    Today is dedicated for Chimpanzee Habituation Experience. Start the day with the early morning breakfast – a packed lunch and you are off to the forest before dawn breaks. After meeting with your guide then you trek to the area where the chimpanzees built nests the night before. Dawn is just breaking and the chimpanzee community you are going to be with the rest of the day is rising from their sleep in the nests.

    Your day will be full, so your camera will fill up with quality pictures of the chimpanzees. You will also get to learn to identify them as individuals by their markings, sometimes scars and other unique features that make them stand out from rest.

    Besides everything described, there are the most colorful butterflies, plants and trees that will amaze you – the setting is simply awesome.

    Meals and overnight stay at Kyaninga Lodge (luxury) or Primate Lodge -Forest Cottage (midrange) or Chimpanzee Guest House (budget facility). A stunning location overlooking a dramatic Crater Lake and the fabled “Mountains of the Moon”.

    Day 4: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth NP (Travel time +3hrs)

    After an early morning breakfast, ready for Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, you will take on a guided walk around the swamp which will provide you with the opportunity to see a wide range of flora and fauna. View a variety of butterflies, birds and other insects.

    Thereafter drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park viewing the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range for much of the journey at leisure. After lunch, take on an afternoon boat cruise along Kazinga Channel – one that joins Lake Edward and Lake George.

    The cruise is a wonderful way to see hippos, buffaloes, kobs, with a spectacular bird watching experience on the water bank. You can also get a chance to see the occasional Nile crocodile (which up until recently did not inhabit this area).

    Many who experience the launch cruise consider it “the highlight” of their entire African safari.

    Day 5: Queen Elizabeth – Ishasha (Travel time +2hrs)

    Begin your day with a cup of coffee. Then an early morning game drive along Kasenyi and Queens Mile. Other wildlife to encounter include; elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, lions, spotted hyenas, bush bucks, stripped jackal, comical warthogs, elusive leopard, Uganda Kobs and a variety of bird species. Later, proceed to Ishasha sector where you will take on yet another evening game drive in search of tree climbing lions.

    Day 6: Ishasha – Bwindi (Travel time +1.5hrs)

    Early morning guided bush walk for a closer interaction with nature. The mid-morning will be spent on a game drive for the tree climbing lions, and thereafter head to Bwindi. The journey takes about 2 hours but driving through interesting features.

    Arrive Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This park is home of the rare mountain gorillas. Apart from gorillas, there are a wide variety of primates to see including the blue and red tailed monkeys. The forest itself is lush and green and there are streams running through it.

    Day 7: Bwindi Gorilla Tracking

    Still on chimpanzee – gorilla jungle safari, after breakfast, set off early with guides to track the gorillas. The thrill of your encounter will erase the difficulties of the potentially strenuous trek. Bring jungle boots and rain jackets because the park is often wet. Spend time in awe watching the gorillas go about their activities.

    Each gorilla safari encounter is different and has its own rewards, but you are likely to enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming and resting as the youngsters frolic and swing from vines in a delightfully playful display.

    Time permitting, spend the afternoon on a community foot safari to explore the life style of the people living and surrounding the park. Return to camp exhilarated to relieve the encounter with friends over a drink.

    Day 8: Second Gorilla trekking

    After breakfast, you will go for the second gorilla track but in another group returning in the afternoon for relaxation and sightseeing around the lodge.

    Day 9: Batwa Cultural experience

    Today is dedicated for a Batwa experience where the Batwa demonstrate hunting techniques, gather honey, point out medicinal plants and demonstrate how to make bamboo cups. Women of the community perform a sorrowful song which echoes and leaves guests with a moving sense of the richness of this fading culture.     Day 10: Bwindi – Lake Mburo NP (Travel time +5hrs)

    After early breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park via Igongo cultural village, this is the place where the future meets the past. Learn more about the Ankole culture. Proceed to the park do an enroute game drive as you go to check in at your lodge. An afternoon boat ride amidst hippos is much rewarding and amazing. Dinner and overnight stay at Mihingo Safari Lodges (high end lodge) or Lake Mburo Safari Lodge/Rwakobo Safari Lodge (Mid range) or Eagles Nest Lodge (Budget facility) Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

    Day 11: Lake Mburo National Park

    Morning game drive in the Park which is an is an extension of the Tanzanian Plains with big herds of Zebra, Impala, Eland , Warthogs ,buffalo and other savannah species. For birders, this is one of the best place to find African Fin foot, Papyrus, Bush Shrike, etc. The evening is spent on a bush walk for wildlife viewing.
