    Kibale National Park, commonly known as the primate capital of the world is located in southwestern part of Uganda. The park boasts of more than 13 primate species, including the common chimpanzees, as the major center of attraction to the park.

    Chimpanzee tracking in Uganda is a very enriching experience, for any visitor who needs to secure a Kibale chimpanzee permits. In addition, one can also do chimpanzee habituation experience in Kibale Forest National Park.

    Visitors can always decide to do half day tracking, which has two schedules, that is 8am in the morning and 2pm in the afternoon. Trekking usually goes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on how close the group is. You are given only a one hour period to spend with the chimps.

    For visitors whose interest is to do a full day chimpanzee tracking, a chimpanzee habituation permit (CHEX) will need to be secured. This gives access to a full day combined chimpanzee tracking and habituation experience, from 6am in the morning during de-nesting up to 6pm in the evening when chimpanzees are nesting.

    The Cost of Kibale Chimpanzee Permits

    Effective 1st July 2020, the cost of Kibale chimpanzee permits was increased to US$ 200.00 up from US$ 150.00 per person, for foreign non-residents. For East African citizens, the charge is at 150,000 Uganda shillings, and the permit is valid for only one day in both cases.

    Full day chimpanzee tracking permit goes for USD$250 in both low and high seasons for foreign non-residents, and 200,000 Uganda shillings for East African residents.

    Each session is restricted to 16 people, so we strongly advise that you to book your Kibale chimpanzee permits in advance. At least a few weeks ahead of time for your arrival to Uganda, to avoid disappointments.

    Similar to gorilla permits in Uganda, Kibale chimpanzee permits are sold on first-come first-serve basis and they are usually on a high demand.
